When I first saw this plane I thought "wow, cool" but not much more than that. After a while I realised that this Piccard guy is really pushing to prove a point. The point being that we don't need fossil fuels at all, even for aviation.
Imagine that, a world without the need for fossil fuels. Yes we will need to use them to produce the solar and wind generators initially, but soon after that we can make electricity generators using already green energy...and then the sky's the limit.
For this Piccard guy, the sky's already the limit, and he looks set to break it. Go, fella.

This project is absolutely amazing. Just think about how much fuel a plane needs and this one needs nothing!
