This shoe thrower is an man who figured out how to be the news instead of merely reporting it. I think fame was his game. He's got it. He'll be popular in some circles over where he works...and less popular in others. As a reporter/journalist...he has done his profession a grave mis-service.

Remember that your website can be promoted using social tools like hi5 or twitter. I happen to have a website with cheap designer clothing and I could use the benefits of getting in touch with my potential clients of course using Hi5, Twitter, Facebook etc. I guess traditional Marketing didn't foresaw the immense benefits of web 2.0 hehe

Matt,

Comparing Bush to Hitler is totally out of line.... Bush made his decision to invade Iraq based on intel he was provided by his advisors and our allies. Everyone seems to forget how Saddam played the game, or what he did to his own people.

The only sad thing here is that we have essentially traded blood for oil. Without that oil the ragheads would still be nomads - living in tents and scratching fleas.

it's convenient for you to ignore the fact that i said the shoe-throwing was an "exaggerated response" because then you can't invent some inane situations to try to prove your point. i mean, throwing a condom on sardowski (i think you mean sarkozy, btw)? seriously? that's a much more crude gesture than a shoe regardless of the cultural implications of shoe-throwing.

the point is, in this particular incident, based on the kind of journalism the man was engaged in that focused on the extreme poverty and mistreatment that has befallen many iraqi people because of bush's invasion, the man feels strongly about THAT MAN being the responsible party for the suffering that he is witnessing in his country. sure, he may hate the USA, but if you look at the things he shouted afterwards, they were not "down with america" but "this is a farewell kiss, you dog." that is what i'm referring to. what has chavez done to you or your family? has mohammed caused you any personal hardship? this is not to say that bush has personally done anything to this man's family but that his policies and reckless international weight-throwing have directly caused much of the suffering that this man deals with on a daily basis. try to see it through his eyes.

Adam - Voicing your opinion does nothing to influence Bush, Jr. He will just continue his way regardless. Don't you remember 'Mission Accomplished"? Reality is not Bush's strong suit. If it doesn't fit his way of thinking, he will ignore the facts.

George - He's a reporter. You say he's directionless in life? And should become a bomber? Your post shows both your ignorance on the subject and your inability to understand people and their motives. Put the blame where it lays. Osama for 9/11, Bush for Iraq. One had nothing to do with the other. The only piece of evidence linking the two was coerced, and more importantly fabricated and false testimony under duress and torture. There was no link. Bush, Jr. was hust looking for an excuse to invade Iraq and topple Saddam. Listen to his speeches in the years before the war.

Retired LE - Bush has shown no respect to the average Iraqi citizen. He even used their plight to improve his image. "Mission Accomplished." Why should they respect him? Should people have respected Hitler while he was fuhrer? Hell no. Actions such as invading Iraq and propping up governments leads to our insecurity.

Rbas - How exactly would the journalist have reported Saddam's atrocities without being tortured and executed? And when the fighting between groups was going on at one point he was kidnapped. I'd say he has first-hand knowledge of what is going on on the ground. He has as much a right to be upset as anyone.

Steven allah - I don't exactly disagree with you in terms of leaving Saddam in place. He and his sons may have been horrible, but he was the only secular leader of a Muslim country. The only time he used religion was pretty much to gain support against America when we invaded. It was absolutely necessary to go to Iraq when they invaded Kuwait, but the second time was not necessary. He was able to keep a stable Middle East because of his military and the geographic location of Iraq. Deposing him could only lead to instability in the region. How Bush and those around him didn't see this is beyond me. The second part I disagree with whole-heartedly. It doesn't even deserve a retort.

It amazes me how we as Americans refuse to look at ourselves and admit failures and responsibility. We aren't responsible for every problem in the Middle East, but one cannot say we aren't a large contributor. Start accepting responsibility and stop pointing the finger. We are Americans and we should be better than that.

This journalist is just abusing his new found freedom for 15 minutes of fame. Where was his outrage when the Kurds and the Shiites were being gassed by Sadan or when the entire soccer team was executed by Sadam’s son, or Shiites and Sunis blowing up each other?…..What he needs to do is swallow his shoe out of embarrassment for such a dysfunctional culture that don’t seem to get their act together and keep blaming everyone except themselves for their shortcomings.

I strongly agree with you Aaron, given the chance if after January 2009 when Obama officially replaces Bush , if you put Obama and Bush side by side infront of Muntadhar al-Zaidi, he will certainly hurl his shoes towards Bush rather than Obama. Not because he is not respecting the US presidency, but he hates Bush personally as a man, not him as the president of US.

As to why we backed up Saddam? The other guy was WORSE! You have to choose to help one crazy dictator or the other...so hard to choose! And yes it is important to the USA to have peace and stability in the middle east.

I respect what you said. However, in that culture the "showing of the sole" of the shoe is the ultimate insult....Bush would have been better off saying...nothing. He had a cavalier..so, it was a size 10, so what..he threw a shoe.... the statement made by the journalist in actions and words were --you are less than the dirt under my shoes--you are a "dog"....but what made me shiver was that for all the blood shed over there.....Bush knew nothing of their culture..he did not get the message. I am a 68 year old quilter, housewife....not a Harvard grad....and I know this. What Bush said was more offensive to the Iraqi people than being pelted with shoes. Don't worry the Iraqi police have already beaten him. Doesn't it mean anything...look at the demonstrations...these people want us gone...THEY DID NOT INVITE US IN....and we are responsible for killing many of them. The lucky ones now have 14 hours of electricity a day ! You don't have to guess....I was against the war....only because I could not believe the country I love so much was going to invade another country. What has Bush done for you lately?

i think all of those who are promoting the "you must respect the office of the head of state" position are not seeing the totality of what that means outside of this one incident. unless by "respect" you just mean not throwing shoes, then it's hard for me to understand how this "respect" means anything at all. remember when obama was laughed off the stage by mccain for suggesting that he would sit down with any world leaders without preconditions? wouldn't that seem disrespectful to not meet with them? there's a difference between respecting the head of state, but not necessarily the man. in this incident, i think the reporter was more disrespecting the man than he was the office of the presidency. i think most americans would agree that we have respect for the presidential office while at the same time giving bush a ridiculously low approval rating. throwing shoes may be a bit exaggerated of a response, but don't talk about respecting the office of the presidency. that wasn't what this was about in my estimation.

Abuya: I expect him to be a reporter and report the news. If that is too difficult for him to do while maintaining a calm, professional demeanor...then he should be fired. In the adult world...emotional temper tantrums are not tolerated. It is also criminal. Criminal behavior is also not tolerated in the adult world. Not to mention it's uneducated behavior. It is not like the journalist did not have a means of expression. He's a journalist/reporter for goodness sake! He knew what he was doing...he planned it. He was looking to get famous.

I feel strongly about this incident....just the fact that Bush knew so little about the culture...that he didn't get it at all....to me shows he deserved it. Our men have died...and Bush didn't get it. Iraqis flogged Sadam's statue with shoes...and Bush didn't get it. I was more appalled by Bush's verbal reaction than I was by the shoes being thrown. He (BUSH ) is pathetic.....
